Hi, I'm Amalia.

I'm the Director of IT at The Study, an independent school in Montreal where I spend my days building things — infrastructure, educational technology, and curriculum for students from kindergarten to Grade 11.

This site is where I put everything that doesn't fit inside a work doc. Experiments in vibe coding, photos I'm proud of, tutorials I wish had existed when I was learning, and notes on what I'm thinking about.

My first website was created in the early 1990s using HTML (I know. I'm dating myself). Since then, I have been using HTML, CSS, Python amongst many others.

The 42 in the URL is, of course, the answer. I'm still working on the question.

42

In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a supercomputer spends 7.5 million years calculating the answer to life, the universe, and everything. The answer is 42. The problem, of course, is that nobody knows what the question was.

That feels right for a personal website. You build the thing. You figure out what it's for later. The number just happened to be available as a domain.

Lab notes.

Competitions - 2026

This year marked an exceptional competition season for our students. Our AstroPi team successfully had their code executed aboard the International Space Station. At the Technovation Challenge Montreal Regional Competition, five teams represented the school with distinction, including one team that captured first place and advanced to the global semi-finals. At the Voices of Olympia Competition, two of our teams earned impressive first- and third-place finishes, demonstrating exceptional research, innovation, and presentation skills. Our junior robotics teams also delivered a strong performance at the provincial championship, capping off a remarkable year of student achievement in STEM, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Update

amalia42.com is live

Built the whole thing in a weekend using vibe coding. Turns out giving yourself no requirements is the fastest way to actually ship something. The starfield was a last-minute addition and is now my favourite part.

Why I started calling it "vibe coding" unironically

Decided to kickstart the year by moving my senior classes into vibe coding. Modelled learning by learning alongside my students.
